3D INTERNET IBA’27 Backnang West

LIGHTSHAPE has recently become part of the IBA'27 network. IBA'27 is the "International Building Exhibition 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart". As a Stuttgart agency we are happy about another project from the region.

This project in 3D internet format is one of the first steps to make the IBA'27 digitally experienceable in 3D space. For the IBA'27 project "Quartier Backnang West" we have created a virtual exhibition for the urban planning competition. The exhibition is based on WebGL and can be experienced in the browser as a 3D exhibition. This enables us to achieve the greatest possible reach and user acceptance, because this technology can be run on any Internet-capable end device. We always have in mind to keep the 3D world as performant as possible, so that it runs smoothly even on low-performance devices and offers a very good user experience.

The visitor can move freely through the exhibition on a large map along the river Murr. The control through the 3D world is done by keyboard and mouse. Not everyone is familiar with the WASD control known from computer games, but it is easy to learn and is explained in the start screen of the application.

The individual participants and their reference projects are presented on steles with different contents. Static images and text content are possible, but also multi-page documents that the user can browse through independently. The exhibition ends with another media element, the short film about the plan area.

This first application is one of a series of projects that gives a preview of the future XR platform that we will be building for IBA '27. The next project will give an overview of the whole region and all IBA'27 projects in a similar style.
