Virtual Reality Fire extinguishing in VR
Employee training / Multiuser VR
The Ministry of the Interior of Baden-Wuerttemberg would like to attract new blood for the honorary office in the rescue service, fire department and civil protection with the population protection mobile!
The mobile information stand has a station for each topic. Our task was to develop a multi-user VR application for the fire department. Two interested people learn to extinguish a fire together in a playful way.
The exercise starts in front of the building to be extinguished with a short learning sequence to learn how to operate the virtual jet pipe. Afterwards, the participants climb up the ladder and enter the burning apartment.
The sources of fire and burning objects are never the same. Thus, the following "fireman" does not have it so easy either, if he has followed the preceding extinguishing on the monitor.

Our solution Multi User Serious Game
Serious game means conveying a serious topic in a playful way. A perfect operational scenario for VR.
It is not easy to recruit young people for the voluntary fire department, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), etc. With the Multi User VR application, we, as part of the Population Protection Mobile, have created a simple, harmless and playful way to approach the topic.
The game starts outside a building with a tutorial that explains how to operate the jet pipe and how to extinguish. Then the player goes up the ladder to the burning apartment. Some objects are already on fire and the spark quickly jumps to other parts of the furniture and ignites them.
Behind this is a game mechanic that creates a different situation and different burning objects with each run.
Because the gameplay varies, the following player, who can watch the current player on a large monitor, does not have it so easy. At the end, on a score board, the water consumption, the extinguished fires and the degree of smoke inhalation are displayed. From this a score and the ranking is calculated.
