Augmented Reality AR App for the Usedom Adventure Trail

LIGHTSHAPE has taken part in a tender of the Kaiserbäder of the island of Usedom. An adventure trail was planned for the Kaiserbäder, which connects the lakes Bansin, Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck as well as other interesting places and gives guests facts about the history of the baths. A digital layer was to be added to the adventure trail by means of an associated app, which would present more in-depth information on the respective topic.

The app was to include features such as augmented reality, 360 degree images and 3D objects. LIGHTSHAPE took on this task and won the pitch.

Our solution No project without a concept

Media content

Content can only be communicated well if it is based on good ideas, cleanly planned and visually appealing. Based on the delivered content and the rough concept, we came up with a unique application that fills and populates the digital layer of the adventure trail stations with new media. Through our own CMS we have all the possibilities to include new digital content, be it text, image, video, augmented reality, 360° images or even virtual reality.

Composition of a personal path

Functions such as the prior collection of information and tips to create a personal path, as well as an e-paper with self-selected highlights to share with friends and acquaintances helps to promote the region. Push messages can be distributed through Spatial Anchors, i.e. the app "knows" where the participant is located and can make recommendations to adjacent stations.

Selfie Stations

Through selfie stations, digital postcard selfies can be shared directly via the app on social media to promote the region. In addition, the mirror stealing and framing stations were suggested for this purpose. The shared postcard selfies could become part of a quiz.

A quiz as a highlight

The highlight of the app is the quiz as a kind of puzzle, in which visitors are given one building block per station that, when combined with other building blocks, produces a solution that surprises. If participants are interested in the "Big Quiz," they have to share certain content virally. As a quiz reward, participants could randomly receive cardboards so they can experience their stations again as a 360° view in the form of virtual reality. This would have the positive side effect that this VR content could be viewed together with relatives to whet their appetite for the region and allow people with limited mobility to also share in the experience.

360° PANORAMA WITH POI'S

Points of interest (POI's) are integrated into this panoramic view so that visitors can get more information from points of interest in the immediate region.

The nice side effect of this is that people who cannot climb the mountain can likewise view the region and get to know it better through the additional POI's. The additional integration of VR is also conceivable.

Time frame with AR

The time frame is ideal for juxtaposing old and new with augmented reality. You "scan" the frame and receive a tracking. An image of the original pier is superimposed on the current pier, so that you can directly compare old and new.

WIPE EFFECT ART

For stations without the possibility of a circular route, other media techniques must be used to understand the location and its history. One could use wiping techniques to bring out content that was there in historical times. Wading people or the bottles that were sunk before the Russians could come to light in this way.
